Reading Diary

Today’s post will also be about promoting reading. A nice way to encourage reading for children, teenagers, and young adults is to use reading diaries. The trick is that reading isn’t passive, but it turns active. This encourages you to read a book to the end. In this context, we’ll first explain what a reading diary is and what it can do for the reader. Then, we’ll take a look at the guidebook – Super Power Reading. This will be followed by another way to motivate reading, before finally addressing the motivation to read. So, enjoy another post on promoting reading.

A reading journal provides many stimuli

What is a reading journal, and what can it do for the reader? Well, specifically, a reading journal will ask open-ended questions about the book or the reading. This will trigger various things. On the one hand, reading becomes conscious and active. There is a conscious and active engagement with the text. In other words, all aspects of reading are challenged. What reading is was discussed in last week’s post. The reader is challenged to really read, and at the same time, the reader receives confirmation that they are using their time purposefully. But something else also happens to the reader: they will find meaning in what they are doing and hopefully experience reading with more enjoyment.

Guide – Super Power Reading

The Friedrich Maerker Verlag is an independent children’s and young adult book publisher specializing in bilingual and multilingual children’s and young adults books. This multilingualism is brought to awareness through reading and therefore becomes a skill. However, reading and reading in different languages are, of course, the focus. The publisher’s website provides a guide category and features an essay on the topic of reading. Use the advice and try to put it into practice, and even non-readers will become successful readers who enjoy reading. A key aspect is the conscious and active act of reading, which can be supported or encouraged with the help of a reading journal. Take advantage of the opportunities to achieve success.

List of Books Read

Besides a reading journal, there are of course numerous other ways to motivate reading. Many people are attracted by a competition, so a reading list can be an incentive to read. A bookmark with a table can be used for this purpose. The table should collect some information, such as the title and author of the book, the reading time, and a rating. Of course, many other aspects can be recorded, but there shouldn’t be too many. If you want to collect more information about the book you’ve read, you should use a reading journal.

Motivation

Motivation is essential. However, sometimes it’s not so obvious how to motivate a child or non-reader to read. A reading journal can provide the necessary motivation, as can a reading list, but the most important thing is the joy of reading, which often develops as reading skills grow. It’s rarely a single aspect; more often, several aspects come together.

In the coming days, a reading journal will be available for download on the website. I will also create a template for a reading list that can be copied or personalized.
