Sure, this is the blog of a publisher of children’s and young adult books. There are many books here, and the majority of them are written in several languages. So it’s certainly not surprising to find a title like „Reading is…“. But what does reading mean to you (the reader of this blog)?
READING IS MY EVERYDAY LIFE
In fact, reading is part of my everyday life. For me, reading is important, it’s relaxing, it’s entertaining, it’s interesting, it’s exciting and it’s simply beautiful. In short, without reading I would be missing out on something. Of course, I am aware that many children, young people and adults read much less than I do. That’s no problem. However, I’m always amazed at how many non-readers tell me that they would like to read more, but…
„BUT“ IS AN EXCUSES
Yes, their explanation usually ends with the BUT. Most explanations are simply excuses. A common argument is lack of time. Well, who says you have to read for a long time or a lot at a time? Everyone can decide for themselves how long they read, whether they read 1 page, 1 chapter or 1 whole book a day. If you want to read, you can simply read in short moments or at a certain point in the day for 10 minutes or as long as you find time. The important thing is to just read at all.
DISTRACTION LEADS TO A LACK OF TIME
An important insight is that distraction leads to a lack of time. However, if you consciously decide to do a certain activity or thing, you will find the time necessary for it. If I pick a book and say I’m going to read it in the evening, then that’s a clear plan. Clearly formulated plans are easier to implement. This works, just try it.
TURN INTENTIONS INTO HABITS
At the beginning of the year, many people resolve to become better people. Some people want to lose weight, others want to exercise more, and others want to read more. All of these projects actually express the need to change habits in order to get closer to one’s own role model. That’s wonderful. But you won’t achieve this goal in one swoop. If you actually want to achieve your goal, you should start in small steps and set yourself small goals. This makes it easier to persevere and actually achieve the goal.
CREATE A READING ROUTINE
My reading routine is that I read for about 30 minutes every night before I go to sleep. Sometimes I read less, sometimes I read more, but I read every night before bed time. Try it too, it works. There are many books at Friedrich-Maerker-Verlag that are sure to captivate your attention so much that you will reach your goal. In this sense: reading is… what you make of it.
